Monthly Mailbag: Living Room Refresh

No. 2: Kristen's Living Room Kristen is the mom of three beautiful little ones. They recently moved and planned to redecorate and then came... COVID.

We can't wait to help this sweet family get started.

Here's our thoughts for Kristen:

Layout: We'd suggest a sectional with a chaise against the wall where you currently have your sofa. This will provide additional seating without over-filling the room. Above the chaise, oversized artwork will be a gorgeous statement piece. Don't be afraid to go really big here so that it becomes a dramatic focal point. Replacing your love seat with two chairs will help to visually open up the space between the kitchen and living room.

2nd Story Windows overlooking family room: If you don't need the natural light in that space upstairs, we'd recommend sheetrock over this window. If you do need the light upstairs, you could modernize it a bit by replacing with three square transom windows.

Paint Colors: See below for ideas on an accent paint color. We would suggest keeping the rest of the space light and airy. Although, it does seem like the white currently on the walls is too cold. You could warm it up with a color like Benjamin Moore's Classic Gray with a Chantilly Lace Trim

Lighting: If you are able to forgo the fan for a dramatic chandelier, this will be a game changer stylistically.

We've given you one option; but no matter what fixture you choose, just make sure that it's got enough presence for this gorgeous room.

Trim: to bring the eye up and emphasize your gorgeous tall ceilings, we'd suggest painting the wall behind the fireplace a darker color and adding some grid trim work to add interest and texture. This will give that wall much more presence and become the focal point of the room.

We'd recommend trying Benjamin Moore's Graphite

or French Beret.

Hopefully this is helpful, Kristen

Send us pictures along the way - we'd love to see pictures of your progress.

Emily
